Still looking for a good German online dictionary? Many students ask me about this, so here are some recommendations for online dictionaries, not only for German-English/English-German:
1. dict.cc Find almost any word there, at least in the german-english dictionary. But dict.cc also translates into many other languages.
2. PONS online dictionary Many languages available, listening function, useful short phrases for the words you search for.
3. babla this dictionary even has some example sentences, which is great to learn the words in context!
Tip: How do you see the gender of a german noun in a dictionary? In the online dictionaries, there is usually a small letter , sometimes in brackets, next to a german noun. Like this:
And then all you have to know is what they stand for:
- m is for masculine nouns, so for “der” words
- f for feminine, “die” words
- n for neutral, “das” words
Cool, huh? :)
